Quinta do Peru hosts memorable Joaquim Oliveira Pro-Am, as golf and football names gather in special tribute
– February 24, 2026

National champion Tomás Bessa and Portuguese Golf Federation president Pedro Nunes Pedro won the Joaquim Oliveira Pro-Am Cup at Quinta do Peru Golf & Country Club in Azeitão on February 21.
The pair scored 72 points, finishing one point ahead of professional Hugo Camelo and amateur Ricardo Abrantes. Pro golfer Pedro Lencart and amateur Diogo Cassiano Neves finished third, two points behind the winners.
“It is a great honour to have an event where we pay tribute to someone who gave so much to Portuguese golf,” said Bessa, who has lived in the Algarve for nearly 10 years. “We are proud to play in memory of someone we all remember with affection.”

The tournament honoured sports and media entrepreneur Joaquim Oliveira, who passed away last year, and marked the opening event of the 2026 Timestamp Golf Tour, organised by the Portuguese Golf Federation and PGA Portugal. The competition awarded €10,000 in prize money.
Spanish pro Ignácio Mateo, 24, won the individual professional title, becoming the first foreign winner on the Timestamp Golf Tour.

Football figures add to special atmosphere
The Pro-Am brought together golf professionals, business leaders and well-known football figures, creating a relaxed and social atmosphere.

Former Brazilian professional footballer Marcelo Guedes won the amateur gross competition with 31 points and also claimed the longest drive award. José Luís Barroso won the amateur net classification with 37 points.
Former Portugal international Nuno Valente won the nearest-to-the-pin skill award. Other football names attending included Ricardo Pereira, Carlos Xavier, Humberto Coelho and José Sousa.

Tribute to Joaquim Oliveira
The Joaquim Oliveira Cup has long been a social gathering for amateur golfers, but this year it was elevated as part of the national professional circuit, with the support of the Oliveira family and PGA Portugal.
Rolando Oliveira, Joaquim Oliveira’s son, thanked participants for their support and presence at the event.
The Timestamp Golf Tour continues with the Capdeville Consulting Pro-Am at Guardian Bom Sucesso Golf, in Óbidos, from April 30 to May 2.
