Inaugural Dom Pedro Junior Masters attracts international field

The fabulous Dom Pedro Victoria Course recently hosted the inaugural Dom Pedro Junior Masters, and 58 young golfers from across the world took part. In a first-of-its-kind event, the Dom Pedro Group welcomed eight nationalities of junior golfers, from America to Europe and the UK, reflecting the tournament’s global appeal.

With players up to 18 years eligible for entry, competitors were split into five separate age categories. After a spectacular two rounds of golf, gender and age-specific prizes were awarded for the first three places in each section. The overall girl’s competition was won by Rita Costa Marques, returning a fantastic 140 strokes, the same impressive score as overall boy winner, Lucas Azinheiro.

By bringing young golfers from all over the world together in a competitive spirit of friendship and sportsmanship, the Junior Masters has already established its status as a special event. The world-renowned Dom Pedro Victoria Course was beautifully showcased as the Par-72 Championship layout, designed by golfing legend, Arnold Palmer, and the water hazards and strategically placed bunkers provided a challenging, but fair, test of golf.

Speaking after the event, a delighted Luis Correia da Silva, CEO Dom Pedro Golf said, “We are thrilled with the success of the very first Dom Pedro Junior Masters. I believe it is always of importance to offer exciting events for young golfers to come together and inspire this next generation of talented golfers. To have a diversified field, not exclusive to Portugal, is a huge triumph for the tournament and we hope to grow on this even more in years to come.”

Young golfers are already marking up their diaries for the 2019 edition of the Dom Pedro Junior Masters, to be held once again at the Victoria Course on the 3rd-5th March, inclusive. Access the full 2018 results at: www.dompedrogolf.com/tournaments/
