A year on the fairways
— October 9, 2026

The Algarve’s golfing calendar rarely slows down, and the year ahead will bring players together from west to east for everything from long-established amateur tournaments to Pro-Ams, junior competitions, and charity events.
The action gathers pace from November 25-27, when the West Algarve Golf Trophy returns for its eighth edition. Three days of competition take players across Espiche, Palmares, and Boavista, showcasing three very different courses around Lagos.

From November 28 to December 5, golfers have plenty of choice. The 27th International Amateur Golf Tournament returns to Vale do Lobo, with rounds on the Royal and Ocean courses, whilst Quinta do Lago stages the eighth Golden Tournament across the Laranjal, North, and South courses.
Meanwhile, the East Algarve Golf Festival runs over the same week, taking place in Castro Marim, Benamor, Monte Rei, Quinta da Ria, and Quinta do Vale.

Vilamoura then hosts one of Portugal’s longest-running amateur events. Held annually since 1987, the Grande Troféu de Vilamoura takes place from December 4-7, with a practice round followed by competition on Millennium, Old Course, and Pinhal.
The fourth Sotavento Golf Trophy follows from December 8-11, bringing Monte Rei, Quinta da Ria, and Quinta do Vale together for three days of competition in the Eastern Algarve. Young golfers also get their chance before the year is out, with Quinta do Lago’s Junior Open scheduled for the end of December.

The start of the 2027 calendar sees Vilamoura host the 28th International Golf Classic from January 9-16. The annual event attracts amateur golfers from around the world, with rounds on the Old Course, Pinhal, Millennium, and Laguna.
Vale do Lobo follows with the 33rd Amateur Week from January 24-31, combining a week of competition and social events on the Royal and Ocean courses.

From March 1-6, the Vilamoura Pro-Am brings professionals and amateurs together at The Els Club Vilamoura, Old Course, and Pinhal.
Later that month, the 16th Spring Amateur Golf Tournament takes place from March 13-20 at Vale do Lobo, with four competition rounds shared between the Royal and Ocean courses.

Vale do Lobo continues one of its longest traditions from May 23-29 with the 43rd Foursomes Week. First held in 1983, the pairs competition combines qualifying rounds, matchplay, and social golf across the resort’s two courses.

Junior golf features prominently during the summer, as Quinta do Lago’s annual Tiago Sousa Memorial Golf Tournament honours the young golfer whilst raising funds to help introduce schoolchildren to the game.
The resort also hosts the Paul McGinley Junior Cup, alongside other initiatives aimed at the next generation of golfers.

Further west, World Kids Golf by Amendoeira Golf Resort has become another fixture in the Algarve’s junior golf calendar, bringing young players from around the world to the O’Connor Jnr. Course in Silves.
With further dates for the second half of 2027 still to be confirmed, the calendar will continue to grow. From competitive weeks between friends to events carrying decades of tradition, there should be no shortage of reasons to put another Algarve tee time in the diary.
