The Algarve is characterised by first class golf courses sprinkled like gold dust across the region. From west to east residents and visitors are spoiled for choice when contemplating the pleasurable decision of which great course to play next. Vilamoura’s iconic Old Course in central Algarve has always been a great favourite with visiting golfers and was recently voted ‘Portugal’s Best Golf Course’ by readers of the UK magazine, Today’s Golfer. Announced at the publication’s latest annual Travel Awards ceremony this is yet another richly deserved accolade for Algarve golf tourism. A delighted CEO, Luís Correia da Silva, has described the announcement as “acknowledgement of our work and dedication over the years” to reflect the group’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and developing first class facilities. Facing competition from magnificent courses not only in Portugal but across Europe, such recognition is further testament to the very positive perceptions of visitors to the Old Course which is undoubtedly one of the Algarve’s many golfing gems.
