Espiche Golf hosted its first professional competition, the Espiche Classic, as a feature of the prestigious Jamega Algarve Pro Golf Tour. On the second and final day of play, South African Tyler Hogarty carded a superb 5 under par 67 which proved to be the winning score and also a new professional course record. Hogarty’s fine display demonstrated that the course presents the golfer with serious challenges but also provides the opportunity to score well. Peter Thornton, co-owner of Espiche, commented that Espiche is “delighted” to have hosted the first professional tournament and emphasised “how the course is maturing” and highlighted “the quality of conditions and presentation” now provided by Espiche. Peter also paid tribute to Tyler Hogarty for a tremendous win and on setting the new professional course record. The Portuguese PGA and Jamega Pro Golf Tour have also praised Peter Thornton for the way in which the Espiche course preserves natural TYLER HOGARTY aspects of the land and employs a sustainable approach through the use of appropriate grasses. The clubhouse has also been highlighted as a superb example of a structure that is both stylish and ecofriendly. Espiche is particularly delighted to have hosted one of the Algarve’s most important events as there is the possibility that Hogarty’s victory might contribute to him winning a place at the Portugal Masters 2015. The top 30 players on the Jamega Tour Order of Merit and the top 30 players from the Algarve Pro Golf Tour Order of Merit will play-off in a championship competition to decide the winner who then qualifies for a place at the Portugal Masters 2015. Well done to Tyler Hogarty and of course Espiche.
