Portugal crowned world’s best as Amendoeira receives top course award

Portugal has just been crowned ‘World’s Best Golf Destination’ at the 3rd Annual World Golf Awards while the Faldo Course at Amendoeira Golf Resort claimed the title of ‘Portugal’s Best Golf Course’. Designed by Sir Nick Faldo, the course has now been recognised on the world stage at the same time as Portugal’s global accolade was announced. The Algarve boasts some of the world’s best-known courses and, having opened in 2008, the Faldo Course at Amendoeira was described as a jewel in the Algarve crown at the recent ceremony.

Mr Christopher Howell, Chairman, Oceânico Group, said: “Back in 2007, Sir Nick Faldo told us, ‘the land at Amendoeira is dramatic and the project has the potential to be a real talking point in the Algarve.’ So, to be recognised as Portugal’s Best Golf Course on the world stage is testament to the design that Sir Nick has created here. We are extremely proud of the partnership we have with Sir Nick and the level of skill our course management team has to keep Sir Nick’s course in such pristine, award winning condition.”

Sir Nick Faldo himself received the coveted award of ‘Golf Course Designer of the Year’ and Portugal was recognised as Europe’s leading golf destination with the ‘World’ award in what was a richly deserved and memorable occasion for everyone associated with golf in Portugal.
