The Portuguese Golf Federation (FPG) has been accredited as a Training Provider by the Scientific and Pedagogical Council for Continuing Education, strengthening its work in teacher-training and paving the way for a stronger presence of golf in Portuguese schools.
Golf is beginning to establish itself as an alternative to sedentary lifestyles among younger generations, combining physical activity, contact with nature and personal development, and promoting more active habits.
The sport has found its way to 46 schools, through a variety of models ranging from extracurricular activities to programmes integrated into the Physical Education curriculum, whether for small groups or initiatives reaching hundreds of pupils per school.
“Investing in golf in schools is much more than just teaching a sport; it is about instilling values such as respect, discipline and a sense of responsibility in young people,” said Carmo Fevereiro, School Sports Coordinator at the FPG.
Carmo also said that this new certification is a decisive step. Rather than just a recognition, it is a validation of a path that allows golf to reach more young people in a structured way with real impact.
Jacinto Pinto, National Coordinator for Golf in School Sport, has already seen a clear increase in the students’ motivation and engagement with golf. He said “This sport helps to develop coordination and concentration, as well as self-control and discipline, essential skills both in and out of school. It is a sport that promotes fundamental values such as fair play and respect for others, and which allows all students to participate, regardless of their abilities.”
