The South Course remains the resort’s defining layout. Designed by William Mitchell in 1974, the par-72 championship course stretches 6,500 metres through umbrella pines, lakes and wildflowers, overlooking the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
Having hosted the Portuguese Open eight times, it combines a remarkable golfing heritage with a layout that continues to challenge players of every level. Accuracy from the tee and strategic course management are essential, particularly as the front and back nines demand different approaches.
The North Course offers a more modern test. Completely redesigned in 2014 by Beau Welling in collaboration with former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, the course was rebuilt to the highest specifications, with new greens, tees, bunkers, irrigation and drainage. Multiple tee positions provide flexibility, while undulating greens, strategically placed hazards and water create plenty of opportunities for players to think their way around the course.
Then there is Laranjal. Set in the Ludo Valley, approximately two kilometres from the main resort, its rolling terrain, five lakes and mature vegetation create a distinctly different character. The par-72 course is known for its defined greens and demanding but rewarding layout, making it a favourite for golfers looking for variety.
Yet the experience does not end when the scorecard is signed. The Quinta do Lago Golf Academy provides a dedicated environment for players who want to develop their game, from fundamentals to more advanced performance work.
Coaching is complemented by technology and club-fitting expertise, allowing golfers to understand not only what they need to change, but why.
