Clube do Golfe da Quinta do Lago recently held its first ‘Pink’ Charity Day, adopting the traditional colours of breast cancer awareness to raise funds for local cancer charities. Thanks to the generosity of the 100 participants in the event, the donations of many members, an impressively large number of local donors, and Past Captain Terry Williams, the fantastic sum of €7500 was raised on the day.
Several organisations provided invaluable support, including: Wine & Co, Mind Body & Soul, Top Wash, Sesil Ceramica, Curiosa, Estetica, Monte Rei Golf & Country Club and the Cheeky Pup. Local companies also provided many ‘incentives’, such as, restaurant vouchers, golf rounds at Laranjal, and guest green fees. Past Captain, Terry Williams also donated his beard! Despite reports that Terry required serious persuasion to relinquish his pride and joy, the €1400 raised as a result of his selfless gesture ensured that everyone, including Terry, (pictured here with the club captains before and after his close shave) was delighted with the outcome. The golf was similarly impressive…
As the Algarve sun made a welcome appearance, so did one hundred visions in pink, ready for competitive action over the South Course in the AM-AM Stableford event. The scores were extremely good overall, although the final, winning, points total of 91 scored by Frank and Elizabeth Prust and Tom and Jacqui Barry proved, unsurprisingly, to be insurmountable. The Beales and the Cunninghams claimed 2nd spot on 89 points, with the Mucklows and Jespersens securing 3rd after countback.
More importantly, however, everyone who played as well as the various individual and organisations who supported the event, were the winners, including of course the deserving, worthy causes.
