The Federation reinforces its role in promoting sustainable practices in golf in Portugal
– January 16, 2026

The Portuguese Golf Federation (FPG) has announced the signing of the EU Green Sport Manifesto, aligning itself with a European movement promoted by the European Commission.
The FPG is one of the first to sign the manifesto, following the example of the European Golf Association (EGA), which was the first international sports federation to sign.
The main objective is to reduce the environmental impact of sporting activities, whilst also promoting a fair and resilient transition for sport. The initiative brings together sports organisations around a shared commitment to climate action and sustainable practices.
By joining the manifesto, the FPG becomes part of a growing network of organisations working to limit their environmental footprint. The move also reinforces the federation’s ongoing work in sustainability, through measures and initiatives developed by its Sustainability and Club and Member Support Directorates, which have played a key role in implementing responsible practices on golf courses and in supporting clubs and stakeholders within the sport.
As part of this commitment, the FPG has agreed to five main lines of action promoted by the initiative: implementing a sustainability governance framework; developing a sustainability strategy aligned with the European Green Deal; measuring and reporting annual progress in operations and events; supporting cooperation and knowledge sharing within sport; and developing, using and sharing green sport tools.
The signing of the Green Sport Manifesto reflects the FPG’s belief that “golf has an active role to play in the transition” to more sustainable practices. “We will continue to promote and implement concrete measures, always with a focus on environmental quality,” said president of the FPG, Pedro Nunes Pedro.
The Federation will also continue to develop training initiatives, seminars and support projects for clubs and local communities, boosting good environmental practices and supporting sustainable projects through the Golf Development Fund.
