The recent Sir Bobby Robson Celebrity Golf Tournament, which took place at Pestana Vila Sol in Vilamoura, raised more than €90,000 for Refúgio Aboim Ascensão. The children’s home was founded in 1985 and focuses on providing emergency help for children in need.
Currently, Carla Pargana, Executive Director of the Refúgio Aboim Ascensão, and her colleagues are caring for up to 90 young children who have been neglected, abandoned, or even abused.
“We are very honoured for having, during these last two decades, the support and kind interest of the Robson family, including our darling Lady Elsie. Also, all of their friends that join us annually for the tournament and the annual Tea Party, which for our children has become much more like a family meeting. It is always a huge and important event for them. The support we receive helps us care, at our ‘Pink House’ in Faro, for children who were in serious danger. On behalf of our children and staff, I would like to say ‘thank you’ so much for everything and God Bless you all.”
Sir Bobby Robson and his wife, Lady Elsie, lived in Portugal for three years and “loved it here and always wanted to repay the kindness of the Portuguese people”. They founded the Sir Bobby Robson Celebrity Golf Tournament as their way of doing that, with all donations going to the Refúgio. Since its founding, the tournament has raised almost €1.5 million.
The Sir Bobby Robson Celebrity Golf Tournament will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year, with a very special event planned at Pestana Vila Sol on June 7 and 8.
Everyone is welcome to donate or join the tournament, to play golf and enjoy football, and to do something wonderful for children who’ve had a difficult start to life.
