Volunteer marshals are needed for the Portugal Masters golf championship, due to take place between November 4 and 7 at the Dom Pedro Victoria golf course in Vilamoura
— September 2021
Volunteers should be 18 years or older and prior experience is helpful, although anyone who is genuinely interested in volunteering can help with no experience as they will receive training. They do not have to be fluent in any languages, “just be enthusiastic golfers”, say organisers.
Duties can include anything from manning an on course leaderboard with scores as they come in over a radio from being static marshals on a green with a “quiet please” sign, making sure spectators are quiet when the professionals are putting.
Marshals can also be in charge of tees and ball spotting for the professionals or looking after a scoreboard in the village so spectators can keep in touch with what is going on at the course.
They can also be responsible for carrying a board which keeps spectators up to date with a particular match and walk round the course with a group.
In exchange for their services, marshals will receive lunch vouchers, polo shirts, a jacket, a cap and (if working all four days) a voucher to play at the course.
