They praised the new identity as a boost to national golf and as a way to strengthen Portugal’s international reputation as a leading sports destination.

The Portuguese Golf Federation highlighted the need to break down the stigma of “elitism and formality”, stressing that “never before have so many young people played golf in Portugal, and never before have so many women played on national courses”.

The new Portugal Golf brand was created to accelerate and solidify this shift, whilst also reinforcing golf’s positive impact on the economy and tourism.

The brand invites all Portuguese citizens to explore the “social, mental and physical benefits of golf”, said Pedro Nunes Pedro, President of the Portuguese Golf Federation.

“The launch of this brand is a statement. Golf wants to be more present in the lives of the Portuguese, and it wants to position itself as an increasingly modern, dynamic and evolved sport,” said Minister Margarida Balseiro Lopes.

Fernando Gomes, President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee, added: “COP’s presence is to support an Olympic federation that is doing a fantastic job of expanding the sport. I’m very confident that we will once again see Portuguese golf at the Olympic Games, possibly as soon as Los Angeles 2028.”
