Oceânico – supporting golf at all levels

Oceânico Golf is committed to supporting Algarve golf at all levels. While boasting top courses and international players, it also supports grass roots golf. Reflecting the calibre of its courses, Oceânico’s Old Course was recently voted Portugal’s best for a third consecutive year. A delighted Chris Stilwell, CEO of Oceânico Golf, commented that winning the award from the UK magazine, Today’s Golfer, for the third consecutive year “is a fantastic achievement.” The Old Course presents golfers with a challenging golfing experience and it is on such courses that many young golfers have reached a top class level of performance.

Oceânico’s João Carlota recently represented Europe in Sweden against Great Britain and Ireland. Europe lost by14-10 but João won his opening singles game against a  previously unbeaten opponent. Congratulating the winning GB&I team, João modestly agreed that he is at “a very special stage” of his career. As a junior, he benefited from an environment in which to learn and develop and Oceânico’s commitment to juniors is illustrated by the recent tournament at Amendoeira Golf Resort.

The Oceânico World Kids Golf Championships saw 127 international players, including a best-ever total of 37 young Portuguese, take part. The event “has grown in stature year on year,” Chris Stilwell proudly explained. Children aged ten and over played 18 holes on each of the three competition days with under tens playing 9. Gross and net scores counted towards the first three prizes in each age and gender category. Congratulations to all who took part!
