The Vilamoura Golf courses have been recognised for their commitment to biodiversity and strong environmental strategy, earning two of the highest ESG distinctions – GEO Certified® status and Biosphere Certification.
All four courses – The Old Course, Pinhal, Millennium, and Laguna – achieved GEO Certified® status for their “outstanding efforts to protect natural resources, promote nature, and support the community”. The GEO Foundation highlighted improvements such as upgraded irrigation systems, reduced water usage and chemical dependency, and a commitment to long-term ecological health.

The Biosphere Certification recognises destinations and organisations that implement sustainable tourism practices and align with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Vilamoura Golf brand is managed by DETAILS, operating under the ownership of Arrow Global, which aims to solidify Vilamoura’s reputation as a premier sports and leisure destination.

Co-CEO Nuno Sepúlveda emphasised that sustainability and environmental preservation remain top priorities, stating: “Vilamoura has some of nature’s most stunning settings, and we feel a great weight of responsibility to ensure it not only is maintained but flourishes for generations to come.”
The Old Course, the second oldest in the Algarve, was praised for its energy-efficient initiatives, including a new pump station, a proactive pine management programme, and biodiversity conservation. Millennium was highlighted as a model of “environmental stewardship,” with a focus on water-efficient irrigation systems and strategic tree management.
Meanwhile, Laguna received recognition for ecosystem protection and a renovated irrigation system that reduced water consumption by 20%, and Pinhal was praised for its social impact, supporting youth golf education and partnering with local organisations to create lasting effects on the local community.
