The second annual golf charity day will be held at the Pestana Silves course hosted by Serra de Monchique and SICG (Silves Internacional Cube de Golfe) on September 7th, 2016. Last year’s beneficiary was Monica, daughter of Silves staff member Fatima Josefa. Urgent medical treatment for a degenerative eye condition was required and a fantastic sum of over €8000 was raised. Following evaluation in France by an ophthalmic specialist Monica could now be included in the Portugal trial of a new drug or possibly participate in trials being held in France. Monica currently attends boarding school in Lisbon, is learning Braille and has become more independent. The committee organising this year’s event has pledged a significant proportion of this year’s funds to supporting Monica’s ongoing medical needs. The format for the day involves teams of four playing a Seattle Shambles with a gunshot start at 09.00 am followed by barbeque and prize-giving in the Silves clubhouse. Green fees are €30 for Pestana members and €50 for non-members (buggy extra). Winners receive trophies while second and third placed teams also receive prizes. Lunch includes a charity auction and raffle with guests able to have lunch and join in the fun for a small fee. Organisers would be delighted for sponsorship of individual holes, nearest the pin and longest drive prizes and donations for the auction. For details regarding sponsorship and playing in this great day for a great cause please contact Alan Winstanley by email at: awinst@aol.co.uk .
