Local Tour professional Ricardo Gouveia finished a highly creditable 15 under par at this year’s Portugal Masters. Rounds of 66, 68, 68 and 67 on successive days of competition served notice of a serious challenge rewarded by a finishing position just outside the top twenty. Gouveia has performed well on the European Tour this year although his display at the Oceânico Victoria Golf Club is his most impressive to date and points to a big year in 2017 for the Portuguese golfer.
The 2016 Portugal Masters was again well served by volunteers led by Sandra Slater including marshals and scorers mainly from the Golf for Greys association and Padraig Harrington paid special tribute to them in his acceptance speech. Meanwhile, more than €22,500 was raised at this year’s event for the Official Charity of the Portugal Masters, the European Disabled Golf Association (EDGA). Professionals donated their Pro-Am fees to the charity and all proceeds from such as the sale of official programmes contributed to the total. The funds raised will have a significant impact on the EDGA’s charitable projects in Portugal and across Europe.
