Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort has claimed the national award for Portugal’s best golf course for the fourth successive year. The 27-hole complex in Lagos landed the title of the country’s best golf course for the fourth time in the Publituris Portugal Travel Awards 2015. It was the 12th year of the awards, which were created by the country’s leading travel trade magazine, Publituris – alongside current co-organisers the Municipal Council of Albufeira and the Algarve Tourism Association – to reward the best in Portuguese tourism.
The award was presented to the resort’s operations director, António Pinto Coelho, who said: “For Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort to win an award for the best golf course four years in a row is an astonishing achievement – and everybody associated with the project is celebrating. In a country which has some of the very best golf courses in Europe, to be acclaimed by the people who matter in the tourism industry – those working within it and those who visit the country – is a tremendous honour. Work also begins soon on the construction of the Onyria Palmares Beach House Hotel in time for the 2016 summer season. I’d like to thank everybody who voted for us, but most of all I’d like to express my gratitude to the staff at the resort who work so hard, day in, day out, to make it such a special experience.”
Onyria Palmares Beach & Golf Resort reopened only in 2011 following extensive redesign by Trent Jones Jnr and this latest award is a tribute to everyone involved in making Onyria such a great success.
