The STRI global sports turf consultancy group boasts the R&A among its clients and UK winners of their prestigious 2017 Golf Environment Awards for course practitioners have enjoyed an Algarve ‘working trip’. The Portuguese Golf Federation’s Alexandra Almeida co-ordinated visits to greenkeeper teams at Espiche, San Lorenzo, Monte Rei and Onyria Palmares (pictured) where sustainable initiatives were examined. While studying methods at some of Europe’s most environmentally sound clubs the UK practitioners also shared their own ideas and experiences. The Algarve’s status one of the world’s most eco-friendly golfing locations is underlined by the desire of environmentally conscientious organisations to learn from the region’s esteemed representatives.
