Pedro Nunes Pedro has been elected the new President of the Portuguese Golf Federation (FPG) for the four-year term (2024-2028). The investiture ceremony, held on November 26, took place at the National Golf Training Centre in Jamor, Oeiras (Lisbon), with over a hundred guests in attendance.

With the project “Juntos Somos Mais Golfe” (“More Golf, Together”), Pedro Nunes Pedro won the election on November 7, succeeding Miguel Franco de Sousa, who served for the past two terms.

“Taking over the presidency of the FPG is much more than leading an institution – it’s committing to the growth and the future of this sport that we are so passionate about,” Pedro Nunes Pedro stated during his inaugural speech. “Representing national golf requires not only passion but also a commitment to professionalism, transparency, and innovation. To everyone who placed their trust in this project, and to the members now elected, thank you for the opportunity to lead this team of excellence.”

The new president of the FPG outlined a “clear mission” to position golf as “a sport of national prominence” by “combining efforts” and “making the sport more widespread, sustainable, and inclusive”.

He also celebrated Portugal’s recent recognition as the “World’s Best Golf Destination” at the World Golf Awards for the third consecutive year, an award voted on by industry professionals from over 100 countries.

Pedro Nunes Pedro will lead the FPG alongside vice-presidents João Paulo Pinto, Jorge Carreira, and Ricardo Martinho. Other elected board members include Patrícia Brito e Cunha, Madalena Costa Macedo, Miguel Gaspar, Joana Trigoso, and Francisco Teles Menezes, Nuno Azevedo Neves and João Augusto.

Some of the proposals include doubling funding for golf clubs for infrastructure improvements (driving ranges, pitch & putt, and short game areas), contributing to clubs that foster the participation of athletes in FPG competitions and national teams, providing incentives for clubs that promote the sport in schools and universities, supporting clubs that create accredited player training schools recognised by the Portuguese Golf Federation, and supporting projects that focus on reducing regional inequalities by investing in hinterland areas.
