Boavista Golf & Spa Resort has recently hosted various successful events including the Members Invitation Day and the penultimate John Aldridge Golf Classic. The ’Classic tournament was once again a resounding success as a field of 96 players from Ireland, Portugal and England competed in a Texas Scramble and the amount raised for charity was a fantastic 22.000 euros. A magnificent meal was then served at Boavista Clubhouse restaurant as players and guests enjoyed a sumptuous Gala Dinner during which additional funds were raised through the traditional auction. For 13 years the John Aldridge Classic has raised in excess of 430,000 euros for various charities in the UK, Ireland and Portugal and Boavista will host the last John Aldridge Golf Classic in 2017. It is anticipated that next year’s competition will be an unforgettable event and a fitting tribute to what has been a valuable charitable enterprise for so many years.
The Boavista Members Invitation Day is an established classic enjoyed by members and guests and this year around 84 players participated in another great day. The pairs Stableford tournament which began with a shotgun start ended with victory for John O’Doherty and Mike O’Doherty who scored 44 points. Runners-up were Chris Whitman and Bradley Davies on 43points while 3rd place went to Peter Ibbs & Alan Banks with 42 points. Doreen Davidson and Andy Thorne took the ladies’ and gents’ longest drive prizes respectively while Paul Cotterell won nearest the pin. The various awards were presented after lunch in the Clubhouse Restaurant at what was a fitting conclusion to another highly successful and memorable Boavista event.
