Portugal to the fore in McGinley Junior Cup

Ninety golfers aged between 6 and 18 recently contested the annual Paul McGinley Junior Cup at Quinta do Lago. Algarve resident Gonçalo Teodoro, 16, lifted both the category one gross and nett trophies. Playing off 0.7, on day one he returned the tournament’s lowest score of 66 followed by 71 on day two. Compatriot Daniel da Costa Rodrigues, 14, off 1.6, finished eight behind while 2016 winner, England’s Alfie Fox, 17, playing off 2.0, was two further back. Paul McGinley presented prizes and is pictured here with the future golfing stars. Winners in other categories included players from Switzerland, Holland, Spain and Ireland to reflect the event’s international status and prestige.
