Make A Wish Portugal, the Official Charity of the Portugal Masters, benefitted from more than €15,000 thanks to fundraising initiatives during the tournament.

The pre-tournament Pro-Am raised €8,400 from the 42 professionals donating their appearance fee, which was matched by the Tour Players Foundation, the charitable arm of The European Tour.

A further €7,000 was amassed from spectators’ donations in return for the official programme and daily draw sheets.
Based in Lisbon, Make A Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, helping to restore their strength, joy and hope. Make A Wish has granted the wishes of nearly 400 children since it began in 2007, creating experiences such as meeting a favourite celebrity or sportsperson, visiting a theme park and going on holiday. The experience gives the child and his or her family renewed strength and determination to fight their illness.

Mariana Carreira, Executive Director of Make A Wish Portugal, said: “It’s fantastic that the professionals playing in the pro-am pledged their support to our charity and we are grateful to the Tour Players Foundation for matching the funds donated.

David Park, The European Tour’s Charity Executive, added: “We are hugely grateful for the generosity of the players and spectators in helping raise this impressive total. This amount of money will make a big difference to Make A Wish Portugal and the children it helps.”
