The Celtic Manor Resort, host to the 2010 Ryder Cup, was the venue for the recent annual 59club golf service awards – regarded by many as the ‘Oscars’ of the golf service industry. The awards are designed to reward the world’s top golf venues across all business elements – sales, service, operations, retail, food and beverage, and management. In what is fantastic news for the Algarve, Monte Rei Golf & Country Club won the coveted ‘Golf Operation Team of the Year’ prize while the club’s director of golf, David Shepherd, was awarded the highly prestigious ‘Golf Manager of the Year’ title. These latest accolades for David and the Monte Rei team reflect the bourgeoning status of the venue as a top class golfing location. Simon Wordsworth, chief executive at 59club and a fellow of the PGA was fulsome in his praise of the award winners: “Congratulations to all of the winners who have, during 2015, displayed an unerring desire to provide only the very best in service and professionalism across all spectra. These outstanding performances highlight just how lucky we are in the golf industry to possess consummate professionals across all different size and manner of venues.” Such observations underline the progress and standing of Monte Rei and its international reputation as a first class facility for golf and leisure. The presence of so many outstanding golf courses and facilities in the Algarve including Monte Rei reflects well on the region and reaffirms its position as one of the world’s leading destinations for golf and leisure.
