Delighted members of the victorious Floresta Parque team
Despite having lost the first match of their season a resounding 5-0 at Boavista, Captain Bob Hart and the Floresta Parque team gradually succeeded in climbing up the league table.
Needing sizeable margins in the last two remaining fixtures – both at home – they defeated Boavista 4 ½ v ½. Then, needing a similar result in their last match against Morgado, recorded an astonishing 5-0 victory to win the league on the final day and qualify for the final and a two-leg affair against Vila Sol.
The first leg played at Golf Santo Antonio was extremely close and the home team took a slender 3-2 lead to Vila Sol for return match. To their great credit the team held on for a 2 ½ – 2 ½ draw to secure a narrow – but winning – margin. A truly impressive performance!
A delighted Brian Noble, Santo Antonio Golf Manager, described the team’s triumph as “a magnificent achievement, especially after a very slow start to the campaign”. Brian also paid tribute to all the players when explaining how they had “worked hard and made the the final after a ‘nail biting’ last two matches of the league season. Victory was achieved in magnificent style by beating a very strong Vila Sol team at Golf Santo Antonio and drawing away at Vila Sol to clinch victory in the last match.”
As well as their obvious golfing talents, Floresta Parque golfers are highly skilled in the art of celebration and it is reported that appropriate festivities continued well into the evening and beyond! Congratulations to the organisers and all players who participated in this season’s Algarve Golf League and especially of course to the champions, Floresta Parque Golf Club.
